Nature and Photography Vacations in the Canadian Arctic

The Land of the Midnight sun is teeming with life and a Canadian Arctic nature vacation offers something for everyone: naturalists, birdwatchers, photographers, adventurers or people who just want an unforgettable nature vacation and wildlife experience. A true Arctic adventure!

Naturalists will have the opportunity to see Arctic hares, wolves, wolverines and fearless caribou, which have been photographed as close as twenty feet from our camp! In fact, the Beverly Lake caribou herd which number over 200,000 migrate past our Mosquito Lake location. On Dubawnt Lake and Mosquito Lake the muskox herd totals approximately 200 of these majestic animals.

Bird watchers can spot peregrine falcons in their nearby rock-top nesting areas as well as bald and golden eagles, Arctic loons and a wide variety of other species that call the Arctic home. The summer months are excellent viewing times as many of these migrant birds return to nest in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut terrain.

Nature vacations north of the tree line to the Arctic tundra are hauntingly beautiful and the adventure of a lifetime. Your summer Canadian nature vacation to The Land of the Midnight Sun is one of the last true wilderness frontiers on the planet for its untouched and unspoiled tundra flora, mammals and birds.

Aurora Borealis Photography

The Canadian Arctic is a paradise for nature photographers, and a vacation in late August offers an excellent opportunity for photographers interested in capturing the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. During the summer months, although you can see the Aurora Borealis, the strong twilight, or midnight sun, can interfere with viewing the stunning displays. However, in mid-to-late August, the temperatures are still pleasant, and as the twilight softens the sky dances, bathed in luminous swirling colours.

Aurora Borealis means "northern lights" and is a shimmering atmospheric phenomenon that occurs commonly above 60 degrees north latitude. Visitors have a chance to see the almost endless array of forms created by the auroras, including arches, bands, streamers, clouds and flames.
