Aurora Borealis Vacations FAQWhat's the best time to see the Northern Lights?Aurora Boreals vacations in late August are the best time to see and photograph the Northern Lights at Tukto Lodge. Earlier in the summer months although you can see the Aurora Borealis, the strong twilight, or midnight sun, can interfere with viewing the stunning displays. However, in mid-to-late August, the temperatures are still pleasant, and you can see the great Northern Lights easily. Do you offer Northern Lights tours? All of our guides are very knowledgeable. You can choose to stay at our main lodge on Mosquito Lake in Canada's Northwest Territories that looks out to a spectacular lake view, or if you are feeling adventurous, why not camp under the Northern Lights? Take a thrilling 3 to 4 day, 100-mile trip float, fishing, and camping trip from Mosquito Lake, Northwest Territories, to Dubawnt Lake, Nunavut, on the Dubawnt River chain. Do I need to bring special equipment for Northern Lights viewing? No, the Aurora Borealis can be seen with the naked eye. If you want to photograph the Northern Lights, you may want to bring a camera capable of long exposures, a tripod ideally with a remote trigger, a good wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens, empty memory cards and warm clothes. Other than the Aurora Borealis, what else can I see? While you can feast your eyes on the Aurora Borealis at night, during the day nature lovers can spot Arctic hares, peregrine falcons, bald eagles, wolves, wolverines and fearless caribou, which have been photographed as close as twenty feet from our camp! The Arctic tundra is alive with flowers and lichen. Check out our nature photo galleries to see some of the stunning local flora and fauna.
