Testimonials from Tukto Lodge Guests

Mosquito Lake and the Dubawnt River have been a fly fishing paradise for me. Both have huge populations of lake trout and Arctic grayling and both species are very willing to take a fly, almost any fly.

When I fish for grayling in the Dubawnt River, I use a #5 rod with leaders from 4x to 2x and #8 - #10 dry flies or nymphs. I’m a little heavy on the leaders because often a large laker will take the fly and a good fight is a lot better than a break off.

I usually catch bigger lakers in the Dubawnt River, so I use an 8 wt rod with a 20 lb. leader. In most cases, the larger leaders allow me to grasp the line at the boat and unhook the fish without a net and without bringing it out of the water. I use streamers in all colors with a 1-0 hook. Again, the size of the hook allows me to grasp it easily for the release.

When fishing Mosquito Lake for lakers, I use a 6 or 7 wt rod with the same 1-0 streamer with a 16 lb leader. Sometimes fishing can be fast with a 4 to 10 lb laker every cast. A number of times in the evening after dinner, I have been able to catch and release over 20 lakers within sight of camp.

My wife and I have been coming to Tukto since 1996 and have only missed a year or two. We are both looking forward to the 2010 season.

I just wanted to drop you a note and thank you for another great trip to Tukto Lodge. Each year I notice many special beautiful things about the "North Country" while staying at the Lodge. Maybe I'm just getting older and slowing down enough tofinally notice and appreciate all the beauty and uniqueness the "North" has to offer. Your camp staff from Wally and his crew to the guides, Stan and Rob, everyone went out of their way to make a super trip. The weather this year was exceptionally warm and mild whichallowed us to have some fantastic arctic grayling fishing (many fish in the 18 to 20 inch range), and very good lake trout fishing. See you next year and thanks again for everything you did.

Had a great trip to Dubawnt. I will be back in 2006 and hopefully so will John. I will book an 8 day trip again - a little later in the season. If John can make it he will be looking at 4 days. The 18 ft. boat was great and so was Cory. Would be my preference to have him as a guide again next year. One thought for you would be to get the names of any singles that you are matching up to both parties. I know I would like to contact my "partner" ahead of time. You will hear from me soon with a reservation. The big one for the trip was only 40 inches x 25 inches (wow): 32 pounds.

P.S. Dad says to say hi to everyone.

Just a note to thank you for the great trip that you put together for me to Mosquito and Dubawnt. You did not mislead me as it was far better than you had described. From the time that I landed in Winnipeg, all of your people went out of their way to make this a perfect trip. The 38 1/2 lake trout and 3 lb. grayling were really just bonuses. I can't tell people that this was a once in a lifetime trip as I am sure that I will be up there again. Once again, thanks for everything - it was great.

As we have just returned from our initial visit with Tukto, I wish to give you some of our thoughts - as far as what we were told to expect vs. what we actually got - it was better all the way around. Our thanks goes to the entire staff of Tukto, from the office to the greeter at the airport. Well done!!! Coming from a resort family, I know firsthand how "things" can go wrong, at the worse possible time. Not so with Tukto. A trip that all of enjoyed, and would like to enjoy again. Thanks for your help and a wonderful time.

Our July journey to the Northwest Territories and Nunavut provided me an introduction to the fly-in wilderness trip. I always wondered what fishermen found so attractive about all of these out-of-the-way destinations. My husband Ty and I spent the first four days at Tukto Lodge on Mosquito Lake, fishing for Arctic grayling and lake trout with our experienced guide, Stan. The second leg of our trip consisted of four days at Dubawnt Lake. While Tukto Lodge offered the amenity women appreciate most - flush toilets - Dubawnt sported an outhouse, a no-frills heated cabin where I could read by natural light until midnight, a home-cooked breakfast and dinner compliments of Aggie and sandwiches or a shore lunch made by our guide Rob, a naturalist and wildlife photographer.

How many fishing trips can boast four trout over 20 pounds in one day? Nunavut can - just read the log. Truthfully, before I saw these trophy fish with my own eyes I suspected that perhaps the fishermen who logged those big numbers the week before exaggerated their catches! That is, until I boated a 20, 21, 23 and 27 pound trout myself - all in the same day!

Thanks for another great trip to Dubawnt & Mosquito Lakes. The fishing was great when we could fish, as Mother Nature let us know that she is still the boss with rain, snow and strong winds to remind us. I finished up with 9 trophy trout up to 25 lbs. at Dubawnt and 11 trophy trout up to 30 lbs. at Mosquito Lake. The camps, food and staff were all great. See you next year and thanks again.
